Missions at Shearer Hills Baptist Church

Acts 1:8 is the basis of our Missions Ministry here at Shearer Hills Baptist Church.

Our Samaria

Our Samaria is North America. One area we are involved with is Montreal Canada. Here are some statistics for the Quebec region of Canada.

  • For every 32 cities Quebec, there is one Evangelical church (a church that tells others about Jesus).
  • For every 184,540 people, there is one church.
  • Quebec has 1,307 cities/communities.
  • There are 1,000 communities without an Evangelical church.

As a church we are financially supporting a North American Missionary named Michael Akinpelu. He is starting a church in Montreal, Canada. We have also taken one mission trip to participate in a Corn Festival. This festival was an outreach for the church.  We will be returning in August of 2014 to again work at the Corn Festival. Below is the latest letter from Michael Akinpelu.

What happened this month (April 2014)

I am grateful for the opportunity to attend two encouraging events this month. The first one was the T4G Conference in Louisville, Kentucky, thanks to Parma Baptist Church, Cleveland, and the other one was on discipleship and took place here in Montreal.

Also, we had an event to encourage Isaac, one of our members, who lost his mother in Côte d’Ivoire in March. This brought close a hundred people together to whom I was privileged to speak to. It also allowed us to meet new families and invite them to our gathering.

As per registering our church with the government, the documents were finally accepted this month, after two attempts in a period of about one year. I am so grateful to the Lord. Please pray along that the registration number will be delivered without any further problems or complications.

As part of our plan to be well structured in our ministry and have the tools necessary for reaching a community that is more and more attracted by technologies, we are planning on having a very good Website ready by the end of June. To this effect, I have met Web developers who are willing to help us build a Website that will meet our needs. This is also vital to reaching University students.

As part of my plan to recruit leaders, I have appointments with two potential leaders (one to help with the work in Pointe-aux-Trembles and the other for the work among university students). I am trusting the Lord to add them to the work He’s called us to do.

Prayer Requests

– Visibility and opportunity to show Christ’s love during the city’s Family Fest on May 24th, as we volunteer at this event.

– Open door and persons of peace, as I hang out among university students.

– Provisions for an effective student ministry.

– Provision for a permanent place of worship and ministry. This will cost between $1,200 and $1,500 a month.

– One of our members has been recently diagnosed with cancer. Pray for healing, for her family and their faith. They are fairly new believers.

  – Strength

Our Ends of the Earth

Our ends of the earth is anywhere outside of North America.

  • In 2012, Shearer Hills began ministry in Jacmel, Haiti. A group of 12 men began construction of a new school in a small village called Mt. Fleury. We dug trenches for the foundation and filled them by bucket. Around 90,000 lbs. of concrete.
  • In 2013, Shearer Hills returned to Haiti. However, we were unable to work on the school in Mt. Fleury. We were able to help complete an Orphanage located in Jacmel.
  • In 2014, Shearer Hills returned with two groups. One group of constructors and one group of instructors. Our constructors were able to build the trusses for the school in Mt. Fleury and then the Haitian crew finished the construction of the school. Our group of instructors worked with three local schools in teacher development. Our team hosted a teacher’s workshop on Saturday. Then during the week they visited each of the three schools. On the first day at the schools our team taught a lesson on art, geography, Bible and physical education. The second day the Haitian teachers used the new ideas taught to them and they used these techniques to teach their class.
