Music & Worship Ministry Opportunities
SANCTUARY CHOIR - All adults who love to sing and are called to worship leadership are welcome in this non-auditioned choral organization which has the on-going responsibility of providing music for the 11:00 a.m. Sunday Worship Service and special events. Rehearsals are held in the Sanctuary each Wednesday at 7:00 p.m. A variety of musical styles from classical to contemporary are prepared for worship presentation.
ORCHESTRA – The orchestra is open to students (8th grade and above) and adults. Rehearsal time is limited to co-ordination and interpretation of the music, so it is necessary to have mastered skill on the instrument prior to being a part of this group. The orchestra accompanies congregational singing and the Sanctuary Choir in the 11:00 a.m. Worship Service. In addition to weekly services, the orchestra plays for special events during the church year. Rehearsals are held in the Sanctuary each Wednesday at 6:00 p.m.
PRAISE BAND AND VOCAL TEAMS – One of the newest ministries within the Shearer Hills Music and Worship Ministry, the Praise Band and Vocal Teams lead congregational worship in the 8:30 a.m. Worship Service. The auditioned vocal teams serve in a weekly rotation.
WEEKDAY ADULT CHOIR – Adults (50 and beyond) are welcome to this non-auditioned choir which rehearses in the Choir Room each Thursday at 10:00 a.m. As this choir develops, the goals are to foster fellowship and ministry, such as sing monthly in area assisted living centers and nursing homes. The choir will also participate in regional and state wide festivals.
CHILDRENS CHOIR – Shearer Hills offers multiple choirs for children in grades K-5. Choirs meet each Sunday, through the school year, at 5:30 p.m. In addition to preparing musicals for presentation to the whole congregation, the choirs occasionally sing in worship services.
PRESCHOOL CHOIR - This is an activity group for those ages 4 and 5 by the fall enrollment date. Various kinds of musical activities are planned for the children to help them begin to experience group as well as individual expression of feelings about God, family, and friends. Very elementary musical education of rhythm and matching pitch are introduced. Meeting time is 5:30 to 6:30 each Sunday evening during the public school year.
HANDBELLS – Another new ministry at Shearer Hills, the handbells rehearse in the Choir Room each Sunday at 4:30 p.m. As the ensemble develops ringers will play in worship services and attend regional and state-wide festivals.
STUDENT ARTS MINISTRY – Currently in development, this ministry will provide training and ministry opportunities to Middle and High School students interested in various fine arts forms, including (but not limited to), praise band, vocal/choral singing and drama. This ministry, in coordination with the Student Ministry, will provide ministry opportunities within the church and through mission/ministry trips.
MEDIA AND AUDIO TEAM – This team supports weekly worship services and special events from behind the scenes. From the sound board to lighting and media projection, this volunteer team faithfully serves our congregation. Volunteers (High School students to Adults) are welcome; training is provided.
DRAMA - The Drama Ministry is primarily involved in special presentations during the year which call for non-singing stage roles. A long-term goal is to extend the drama ministry to include a team that can be used in the Sunday morning worship services to give additional expression and interpretation to the day's central worship emphasis.
